July 10: SE Gamers at Gusto's
July 5: Beginner Class- Off Until Further Notice
I think there are two logical formats that this event could take on in order to help people learn. One is having random people every week, like an open class. The other is a beginner friendly campaign where I try to hold on to the same people every week. The first will benefit about four people. The second will allow many others to participate, and honestly that might work better for me while I am learning to DM.
Game starts at 2:00. Be early. I have made my own pregenerated characters. Pick one based on who you are as a person. Your own natural talents will feed into role playing better that way.
In order to find a group for yourself, go to the individual facebook pages of the gaming shops around town. That is an effective way of joining a table that needs players. Look for their extra pages called LFG (Looking for group) or RPG (Role Playing Game). Meetup is kind of a fluid hub of info, made up of players, but we are busy and our membership is ever changing. This may not be the only place that you need to go in order to connect with other players.
Downtown: Level One Gameshop and Pawn & Pint
Lee's Summit: Pulp Fiction Comics
Independence: Game Cafe
Overland Park: Tabletop Games
I don't know if Liberty or Lawrence have a shop. If they do, I have not been there personally, and can't vouch for their D&D supplies. I feel like someone needs to get brave and open a St. Jo shop.
There are enough random people seeing this for me to want to throw out advice or discussion topics in this space.
So this week's advice- You are a better player after you DM
It seems counter intuitive but you will be easier on your DM and your teammates after you try DMing.
A lot of what your DM does, and never does, will make so much more sense to you once you experience this from the other side.
I only realized this once I got my ass kicked out of a D&D group.
It took me a while to realize that I never tried to see this game from my DM's point of view. That is the single most valuable thing that I have learned in D&D.
Half of what I did every week was a distraction or an inconvenience to him, and I honestly didn't know that.
The shortest path to respect and camaraderie is to run your own game.
If you are still reading this long post, inexperienced players-
-5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons
-Meaningful story>mindless combat
-Bring a sensible amount of maturity and consideration for teammates, (show-offs are amusing once or twice, but stupidity shouldn't be encouraged in the long run)
-Have a pencil and dice
Buy a Player's Handbook. This is vital.
If you want to learn more about the D&D universe, there are several console and PC games available. I play Neverwinter. This will give you visuals of the classic places and races of the settings. The Forgotten Realms specifically.
I recommend looking up the novels, either online (ebooks) or through the library (hardcover). This will give you more in depth knowledge on the cultures and typical personalities of the races. Wikipedia has lists of all of the novels. Pick one trilogy from one setting and go from there.
You can use the website D&DBeyond to get started. It does the math for you and tells you some spells to choose from, but they intentionally exclude certain options in order to make you pay for the service- so not all of the races/subclasses/spells are available.
Make sure to use the website for D&DBeyond. Apparently, the app is specifically for source books, if you have paid for access to any.
I know this is rude AF but honestly please, if you are not new to D&D (you learned everything there is to know about d&d through podcasts or you played earlier editions and just want someone to teach you 5th Edition) this class isn't for you. I am trying to teach people that genuinely do not understand how all of this works, and need to have the etiquette and the story building and the mechanics and the technicalities explained. There are hundreds of youtube videos that will explain 5th edition.
River Market is under construction. You will need to park on the east side of the shop. Or, if you don't mind walking, on the far west side of the market. Click here for eventJuly 2: Games At TableTop
Tabletop in Overland Park hosts a game night every Thursday, they have nice big tables and a central location. We could get a group together to go play some more in depth games like Settlers of Catan, Small World, Munchkin or something else (Dominion?).

Join us for our monthly Board Game Night at Lenexa Public Market. This free event allows us to share our favorite party and light games with adults looking for laughs and good company, even if they have no experience with board games.
When you arrive, please expect to be greeted by, Topher, our game guru. He will introduce you to some attendees and get you playing a game as soon as possible. A curated library of roughly 30 games will be available to attendees including titles like Dixit, Codenames, King of Tokyo, Splendor, Azul, Pandemic, Wingspan, and Century Spice Road. All of which have simple rules and can be played in under 45 minutes.
We recommend you park in the free parking garage. To find us, exit the garage on level one and walk over (you should pass a statue of Na-Nex-Se). Go through the doors (not down the stairs) and veer to the right. Keep walking through the art gallery into the market. We will be in the kitchen area overlooking the market. If you are on the lower level, where the market is located, come join us on the second floor.
We also encourage you to like and follow Bored Without Games on Facebook so you are always invited to our events:
https://www.facebook.com/boredwithoutgames
The Lenexa Public Market is a gorgeous facility populated with local food vendors and merchants. If you've never been, there is no better excuse to visit this hidden gem. Parking is free and plentiful. For more details about the location go to:

If this event sounds too light for your taste, feel free to message us and we will gladly recommend other gatherings that may be a better fit.

This event is hosted at Pawn & Pint, Kansas City's First Board Game Cafe. With over a thousand games in their collection, and friendly staff available to help teach games, it is the ideal meet-up location for gaming in the Crossroads. Admission is $5, or Free for Pawn & Pint Membership holders, and includes playing in the Adventurers League as well as access to the entire game library for the whole day.

OK folks, here is the deal. Gusto's is currently offering curb-side service only; they are not allowing customers inside. However, they are fine with people sitting on the patio. You are welcome to meet on the patio if you are so inclined. Message me separately if you would like to host a gathering in your home and you want it posted on Meetup.

Click here for eventJune 25: 5e D&D Campaign, DM
