February 18: Cinemasochists: What Happened?!?

Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at 7:00:00 PM The Buffalo Room 817 Westport Rd, Kansas City, MO

The Cinemasochists show- three people poke fun at a terrible, cheap, confusing monstrosity of a film, done in the style of Mystery Science Theater 3000. They give some background as to how this weird thing got made in the first place, then they show the terrible movie, making jokes about the dialogue/characters/acting/etc throughout. Some of the movies are so bad, they really make fun of themselves.

The Buffalo Room is behind the Westport Flea Market. The show is $5 cash. Held on the third Tuesday of every month. Westport Flea Market provides the food and drinks, but The Buffalo Room has the tech to run debit cards.

Dale always gives a rundown of how the movie got made before showing the film (how much it cost to make it, who directed it, what happened to the actors afterward, etc.).

This month's movie is- The Peanut Butter Solution. A peppy little coming-of-age flick from 1985. It's got ghosts, it's got hair that can move on its own, and it's got the disturbing cheese that always comes with kid movies from the 80s.

Quick Guide to Surviving Downtown- in case any of these are keeping you from attending

Parking- There is a free parking lot behind The Westport Flea Market

Cheap food- Sonic is nearby, Quiktrip is down the street, the Tuesday Night Special is 2 burgers+2 fries for $7.99.

The Homeless People- Not as dangerous as you would think. Don't be rude to them. Just firmly and sincerely say "Sorry, I don't carry cash" if you are approached for money. It helps to dress down, and not look like you have money to begin with. Mostly, they're just going to give you this sob story and ask you for $2. I gave someone the $2 once and then they asked for $5. And now, "I don't carry cash."

Bathrooms- Downtown bathrooms really are awful. All of them. Every single one. It's the strangest phenomenon. So, use toilet paper to cover the seat. You may have to use paper towels as makeshift toilet paper. Be ready to let the staff know if anything else is missing. Typically, there will be soap and tp present, but not always.
